Cassandra by jollyjack Cassandra by jollyjack
To hear the whispers of the serpents and be told they're false.
For the whispers to then fly true. Vexation.

Midnight ramblings.

Where is my coco?

To the Greeks, snakes carried wisdom. One story was that a snake wispered in Cassandra's ear, which is how she got the power of prophecy.

No, they're telling Cassandra the truth. The problem is that she was cursed by Apollo so that no one would believe her.

Whispering sweet nothings in her ear.

Cleopatra died when she held a beast to her ass.  I mean, an asp to her breast.  But everyone believed her; Cassandra was ever a pariah.

This picture and description reminds me of Cassandra of Troy, the woman tricks Apollo into giving her the gift of prophecy in exchange for becoming his lover, then she breaks her end of the bargain so Apollo (also associated with snakes) makes it so no one believes her prophecies. She foresaw the fall of Troy and Agamemnon's death, but no one believed her :/

Nice work, Jack!  Yes, Cassandra in Greek myth was given the ability to prophesy accurately, but was cursed with no one believing her prophecies until it was too late.
