Fun fact: Colour Sergeant Bourne was the longest-living of all the soldiers who participated at Rourke's Drift - he lived to the age of 91 and died on VE Day, 1945! (I guess he was determined to see Mother England prevail in TWO World Wars before he died!)
Even though the actual Colour Sergeant Bourne was only twenty-four and the movie was mostly inaccurate,it's still one of my favorites and love the likeness. Now be a good gentleman and step away from the door.
Colour Sergeant Bourne had some of the best lines in the movie. Just stoic in the face of overwhelming odds and instilling discipline in the ranks is a thankless and often misunderstood task. When a young buck private asks why do they have face this murderous onslaught and Colour Sergeant Bourne just replies because we are here is just priceless!
