Dance, Monkey. Dance for Lucas by jollyjack Dance, Monkey. Dance for Lucas by jollyjack
I think that Star Wars will be the only franchise in film history that people will actually CELEBRATE being remade, when it inevitably happens in 15+ years time and after Lucas has become one big neck.

I can see what he was trying to convey over the course of the prequels. The machiavellian machinations of Palpatine and the fall of Anakin would have made for very gripping tales, had the script and screenplay been written by someone else…..and then given to people who can act.

How the f**k did Hayden Christensen get through an audition? Did all the competition die in a fire or something?

He's corpsing worse than the younglings.

I agree with you completely. As for how Christensen got the role, I don't think anyone had to die. He just had to suck a lot of dicks. Speaking of sucking, am I the only one who thinks Jar Jar Binks should have died at the end of Episode 1?

The interesting thing to note is that Christensen wanted to include some improv, and Lucas refused. Say, it's not like the improv was part of what made the originals so good, right? Wait, it is.

DAMMIT LUCAS!!! Is it really that hard for you to use the words "child" or "children"? I swear people, George Lucas used to be a great filmmaker, but then he ended up going down the same route as Frank Miller did as comics writer/artist.

When it came to the acting, Ewen McGregor was the best throughout it all. Everyone else, with the exception of Palpatine, were a bit "nehhhhhhhhh".....
Indurok Featured By Owner Jul 21, 2013   Digital Artist
Oh, Palpatine is an awesome villain. I can imitate his voice.

And Ewan McGregor is my most favorite actor in the Star Wars films.
TheRavensBastard39 Featured By Owner Feb 14, 2014  Student Traditional Artist
I'll agree on both counts. Palpatine is a great villain, and Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan Kenobi was the one character throughout the prequels that I know I genuinely liked...and R2-D2...and Mace Windu...and Qui-Gon Ji- ok, so there were a few characters that were well portrayed...but that still doesn't excuse the midichlorian bulls**t.

Well, I am not an expert on the making of movies or whatever, but people don't seem all that into the prequals, it seems. I can't say I know the problem people have with episode 1. I have heard people say that was the worst episode, but I don't understand why. I have always liked them. Maybe it's the graphics and animation. I am in an animation class because it was one of my biggest interests.
TheRavensBastard39 Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2014  Student Traditional Artist
here's my summary of the prequels: Phantom Menace sucked, Attack of the Clones was an improvement but OK at best, and Revenge of the Sith is admittedly pretty damn decent.

You have a good point about H. Christensen. Bow Ring. But I think Ewan McGregor did a good job with Kenobi, don't you?

Thing is Christensen isn't a horrible actor per-se, look at him in other stuff and you can sorta see that. Not great, but not bad. But when given a wooden script and made to act in what is essentially green rooms with various blocky bits in them for a year or so. It's hard to express proper emotion.

Too bad, the equivalent of the spirit and soul of directors Akira Kurosawa, Sergio Leone and early 1970s era George Lucas weren't present. What a bomb.

Star wars prequels have an awesome story but the acting and over use of effects leaves you wanting.

Agreed about the rant XD The only stuff worth seeing in the prequels are darth maul, lightsaber duels and Oni wan cause he's handsome :)
Great drawing by the way!

El que iba a interpretar a Anakin Skywalker iba a ser Leonardo Di Caprio. Luego no sé qué problema tuvo y pusieron a Hayden.

The prequels weren't that bad. At least they were better then the Holiday Special(I still shudder when thinking about it). I think you guys are focusing too much at the negative aspects(Some of the acting) and ignoring the positive aspects.
Hayden Christensen was a hit or miss for me. I think he did a better job in Revenge of the Sith then in Attack of the Clones. He still could have done better.
Natalie Portman could have done better.
Ewan McGreger did a good job.
Seriously. If you guys are gonna let a few bad things ruin an entire film for you, then that's pretty sad.
BTW. Cool comic!

Ewan McGregor was pretty good, I think.

Hayden Christensen... Yeah, I'd replace him with someone else. Anyone else.

I'm afraid one can't replace Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine. He was in the first three films, he had to return for the prequels.

Of course, Count Dooku could've been cut out entirely. Sorry, Sir Christopher Lee, but you could've been much greater use as a different character.

General Grevious... Eeeeh, I dunno about him. He could've been cut out, but also could have been put to greater effect. He seemed like an old general waiting for his debut, never getting it, and out for revenge.

The Explanation of the Force... Hm... I'm divided on that one, and don't know if it should have been cut out or not. Yes, Lucas was trying to define what the Force was, exactly, to the newer, younger viewers, but the Force was an acceptable piece of space magic that we were willing to over look. Soft Sci-Fi vs. Hard Sci-Fi, tis always a fruitless argument.

Episode I, it was pretty alright. I mean, it seemed a bit... jumpy and tipsy-turvey, but overall, it was rather well written. Some funny parts, some sad, but Darth Maul... I dunno, maybe we could've had a better, more characterized and in-depth villain instead of some mysterious baddie that we all know will die at the end.

Episode II was poorly written, I have to admit. I think any one of us could've done better. Hell, I could've done better. The dialogue was average, but maybe we could've seen some of the flaws of the Jedi cause Obi-Wan and Anakin to think about their place in the Jedi Order, maybe some more conflict other than "let's follow up leads that will totally start a war". Though personally, I'd have done some things about the Clone Troopers. Maybe some moral conflict within the Jedi about using Clones that have been bred only for war. Hell, Obi-Wan should have felt at least something about that. I'd also have given them some better armor, just because it seemed cumbersome. That, and a bit better training and more freedom to think for themselves. Hell, maybe start Palpatine's machinations within Episode II, instead of just giving him a backseat for the movie. Have him more involved, dammit!

Episode III, I think we all know we could have done better. Bit of a better standard with the Clone Troopers, a bit more depth into the Clone Wars, maybe the Jedi being contacted of the Battle of Coruscant before throwing the scene over to the Battle itself. Some more depth for the people who didn't watch the Clone Wars miniseries between Episode II and Episode III. That, and give it more suspense. More of a thriller vibe. Maybe take the fight to the streets of Coruscant even, have the Jedi and the Clones defending the Chancellor down in the depths of Coruscant, have the Jedi encounter the dead of the planet wide city, have them and Clones drive off droid attack after droid attack in an effort to defend the civilians! Some drama, some suspense, that's all I'm askin'. And then have things seem wartorn after that.

Is it me, or did anyone else notice the wave of "keep calm and carry on" that flooded Coruscant? The minimal damage, even though the planet was invaded? The normality returning, despite such a brutal attack? That's not how a populace who just had their asses handed to them would react, is it?

And is it me, or it strange that I find that there are no recruitment drives and drafts being placed on Republic Worlds to help the war effort, despite the "Republic Forces wearing thin"?

Sorry, I'm ranting, but there are a lot of things that could've been done better.

Still, funny comic, Sir Jackson. Keep up the good work, and may the Force be with you.

Simple, George Lucas didn't actually direct Episodes, IV, V, and VI. He did direct I, II, III. There is a very easy to prove this, read the damn credits. He also directed Howard the Duck.

Strongly agree here... the first ORIGINAL three should be left well enough alone but the prequels... all made/written to make money and the hell with the story line. How sad that it gotten to that.

I honestly don't know how Hayden Christensen got that part. He was going against Jonathan Jackson, who can in fact act his way out of a paper bag, and is perfectly good at playing bitchy, whiny, assholes (such as Anakin). He had years of practice in the world of the soap opera. End rant.

I did gain a new response for Ewen MacGregor for admitting how lousy the movie was in interviews.
