I never buy a comic if the cover has been drawn by a high-profile 'superstar' artist and the interior is by someone else. If the creators have felt they need to try and dupe people into buying it, it probably isn't worth my time (or precious shelf-space!).

this makes me think of some online game advertisements...the flashy adverts have absolutely NOTHING in common with the in-game art...some are so overdone i feel like they spent more money/time/effort on the adverts than on the game itself!

case in point: Maplestory. the adverts are as flashy as some Dragonball Z scenes-but the actual game? it looks more like the original Super Mario!

Well Spaz is one thing seeing as Tracy Yardly does the insides of Sonic these days but yeah I look inside first on any comic I buy.

I've had that problem as well. I used to collect the Knuckles the Echidna comics, and the last few had lovely covers by Manny Galan, and interior art that looked like it had been soaked in water before the paint had fully dried...

there are so many issues I've passed up for that same reason, much like when Travis Charest stopped drawing wildcats, but continued doing covers, i believe i got duped the first time :p

I have a problem like that. I buy comics from a used bookstore because they're really cheap. I only find out why when I read them. That evil alien the Green Lantern is fighting on the cover, is actually just a big wuss who goes down in one hit. Thatgiant shark monster Aquaman is fighting on the cover, happens to be a nice guy and the two don't even fight. And I only find this out between the enormous advertisements that line every other page. It's just kind of sad really.

You know, the comic shop I often go to has all the comics in plastic sleeves. I don't go to comic shops that often and so thought this was a regular thing or else just to protect them from dust.
They guys working there also seem extremely vocal against people reading the comics there. I've bought a few comics there though I do admit that I like to browse, so I've actually had one or two minor conflicts with the people working there when they got angry with me. I kept things civil, because I knew that this was their shop and they made the rules, but I want to know if this is normal.

If the person is too much of a coward to try his own art on the cover, then he shouldn't have even made the comic. An artist should do the cover of his/her own comic. However possitive criticism is always appritiated.

exactly. but you don't really get that kind of thing with graphic novels, it's usually good all the way through, which is why I prefer them.

ALSO they don't fall apart as easily.
