HTP The Bureau: XCom Declassified

Description

I first caught sight of The Bureau a couple of years back, and from the off: I thought it looked and sounded like a great game.
It had a retro setting, it had aliens that LOOKED alien and the gameplay sounded like it focused as much on investigation as it did gunplay.

Fast forward to today: we still have the retro setting, but the cool looking aliens are replaced by the generic pap we've seen again and again and the gameplay is cover-based shooting with squad elements that becomes very repetetive.
The whole thing feels like it was a new IP that was shoe-horned into the XCom franchise.

What a waste.

Watch the video charting the evolution (though I feel "devolution" is more apt) of the game to see what once was, and what could have been: uk.ign.com/videos/2013/05/10/t…

It's false advertising on the part of the game designers, but at the same time, not their fault. I imagine they start out with great ideas that really will be wonderful once completed. Then corporate comes in and 'fixes' things because the designers are spending too much money. So they send a suit who got a college degree in business management, but has no f*cking clue as to the first thing about designing a game. He also usually had some sort of outline for what 'makes games work' and basically rapes the project until it's a piece of copy/paste crap that's been done 1000 times over, because 'this is what sells'. Those silly little game designers with their grand ideas, they have no idea what it takes to make a game sell. No, the big corporate suit who's never played a video game in his life is the 'expert'.
