I measure the quality of a game by how much fun I have and my reluctance to turn off the console at the end of each gaming session.
GTA4 currently has me swearing a lot, wringing the controller in frustration and kicking said console until the power cuts out. I can’t even abandon the main missions to explore the (inarguably pretty) game-world in peace, which would have been its saving grace; I keep getting phone-calls asking why I’ve not taken a particular character out to play a dull and repetitive mini-game!! I know I don’t have to, but I also know that if I don’t it’s going to take me longer to access hidden missions. In effect, I’m being punished for wanting to do what a sandbox game is meant to let you do: What you want, when you want, how you want. I’ve had the game for 2 weeks. The first few days were great, but now the only reason I go back to it is to justify the stupid amount of money I spent on it. |
