Description
The original pages 5 to 10 of Battle Bunnies.
This was as far as I got with the project back in 2008, and it was at this time that I acquired a Cintiq and started doing everything digitally, making these the last comic pages I drew with pencil and ink.
I made a point of not looking at these pages again until I had finished the new ones, simply so I didn’t make the task feel like a chore. No one enjoys having to re-do work, but I just couldn’t pick up where I left off 4 years ago, the difference in linework and character design (Beardy cat got fat!) was simply too great.
That said; there are a few angles and character positioning that I wish I had re-used.
There were a number of changes made to the narrative and dialogue for this scene, chief of which is the “hidden blade” gimmick. It’s a “bad girl” cliché that’s still there, but I felt the original was too aggressive for the slightly flirtatious air I wanted to establish between Connie and Varanasi. So, rather than have Connie produce a BIG blade from….somewhere, and sweep it in Varanasi’s direction, she simply produces a more manageable knife and offers it to an amused, rather than shocked, Rajlander, which is enough to make her point.
