Description

Had a proper geek-out, today.
I found myself at the Birmingham Games Expo where I discovered two of the guests were Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson (not Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson Games. The other Steve Jackson.....never mind).
These two were responsible for the Fighting Fantasy game books and the Advanced Fighting Fantasy game system, both of which I spent a lot of time playing in the 90s.

When I started trying to get into the games industry (I started young!) I sent a game design to Livingstone at Eidos. Somehow it reached him and he sent back a reply! I still have it kicking around somewhere.
Anyway - I didn't bring my copy of Warlock of Firetop Mountain as I had no idea the writers would be there, so instead I simply waited in line so I could finally thank the chap for humouring a very green, would-be games designer.

I'm....pretty sure I did. I might have had a nerd-gasm and tried to mount his head.
Either way; I probably looked and sounded a bit of a cringe-inducing fan-boy.....

Steve Jackson (Games) in Austin, Texas is tired of explaining that, too. I was a huge GURPS fan for like 20 years until I got bored trying to explain the benefits of the system and just started running Pathfinder and Chronicles of Darkness.

It doesn't help that they both wrote for the Fighting Fantasy series, under the same name, in the 1980s.
