Lydford, another random village on the outskirts of the intensely creepy Dartmoor National Park.
There’s a gorge nearby, which is apparently quite a splendid natural formation, but it had been raining and I wasn’t willing to pay the National Trust for the privilege of slithering down its muddy slopes. I instead wandered around the local castle and church.
The castle (seen in the background) is essentially an old stone-brick cube on a hill, and was used as a jail.
A very DEEP jail.
