St Catherine's Chapel by jollyjack St Catherine's Chapel by jollyjack
I love it when there’s a creepy building overlooking a small village.
St Catherine’s Chapel looms over the Dorset village of Abbotsbury ([link])

I remember visiting that place during a working holiday. Great view! Quite a climb from the village as I remember.

If so go visit Melk (Austria) when you can, it's a HUGE monastery overlooking a rather small town and a nice view over the Danube. Also got a nice demostration of what kind of churches you can build when you're getting the riches of a whole continent...

Looks to be in good shape. Built on a hill, definite room for secret underground expansion, overlooking village, perfect.

Is this site still available for purchase by evil overlords or is it already taken?

I dont like that building at all, its looking strange and for some reason out of place, like ....like someone saved it from beeing destroyed by the villagers a century ago, someone like a bunch of fathers or nuns living there for generations, inbred and cannibalistic... and every spring they will celebrate ritual to ensure the safety of Dorset,...the sacrifice.... there always needs to be a sacrifice... ( they also take tourists)

I guess looming would be better than drooling in anticipation. Which would be the next step nearer destruction of those below. :D

Interesting building.

It'd be creepier if the countryside background wasn't so relaxing to look at.

From this angle and lighting, it looks ok to me and not so creepy. Perhaps shot from an upward angle and at either dusk or night it might be creepy.

well, I don't think it's all that creepy.
I like it, it's nice!
But then, I'm from a country that you guys say you never wanted in the first place, and we haven't had time to go nuts with the towns and churches the way you have.
Check back in 500 years.

It doesn't really loom so much as it lurks... sullenly, like a weight on the land...

I was going to say that it's not creepy, it's rather pretty, and then I imagined it in the dark, and for some reason Bloody Tears started playing in my head and I went, oh, nevermind.

What a humble little chapel. Though the lack of any belfries or towers lowers its haunting potential.

Dorset, I knew it!
Beautiful country, so far of what I've seen.
But Cornwall must be the nicest region I've visited aside from the Czech mountains areas.
