Tintern Abbey 02 by jollyjack Tintern Abbey 02 by jollyjack
I've visited many abbeys around Britain. Few are in as good a shape as Tintern, South East Wales. It's on par with Rievaulx in Yorkshire, which is one of my favourites.
Unfortunately, it's also the busiest I've wandered, sitting as it does on a fairly well trod tourist trail and main road, so trying to get a photo without a tourist in it required a fair bit of patience.

I love this conception of a dark, abandoned place..
Doesn't it give you goosebumps being alone in such places, btw? X)

Places like this don't bother me at all. They feel peaceful and serene.
Modern churches, on the other hand, scare the crap out of me. They feel really evil.

Some very artistic shots there, JJ. May I enquire as to the camera/lens setup you use?

So, that's Tintern, I can now see why Wordsworth enjoyed revisiting it.

If there's ever some architecture you want to photo but there's too many tourists, you can easily get rid of the people pretty easily with photoshop and a tripod. Set up the tripod and take 5-10 pictures at the same angle, the in photoshop go to File>Scripts>Statistics. If you select "median" it will automatically eliminate anything that isn't the same. It's pretty handy so long as you have a tripod with you
