It's....it's like they WANT it to fail....

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainme…

They're going in the right direction, by making Batman an older, more experienced hero (told you it was a good idea!), but they've cast the wrong guy.
Now there's nothing wrong with Ben Affleck. People badmouth his acting, but I've never had a problem with it. He can also do the super-hero thing. The problem with Daredevil was the script, not the casting. Affleck did a fine job as Matt Murdock, given the tripe he had to work with. He just isn't Batman/Bruce Wayne, though.

On the Keaton-Clooney Scale, he's a full-on George.

He'd make a much better Superman than he would a Batman. He's even played Superman before.....well, he played a guy that played Superman (Hollywoodland, 2006).

The actor I'd have loved to see take the role of the Bat is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He plays a relentless, grizzled bad-ass PERFECTLY.

At this point, I don't see a JLA film posing much of a threat to future Avengers outings.

Well.. man of steel was awful, so not really that surprised.  Anyone blinded by the big explosions enough to think it was great will have the blindfold drop off when they see Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill inexplicably topless and walking away from some large burning CGI effect, probably in slow motion to a bass sound track.

For those worried about his Acting ability- don't worry, Zack Snyder likely won't give him enough screen time or script for it to matter.

I have a hard time with Ben Affleck playing anything else than the character in Clerks 2, Mall Rats, and to some extent Good Will Hunting. He plays a person who thinks he's the coolest guy he knows, and the rest of the world just thinks he's a bit of a douche. Bruce Wayne is a man so caught up in his parents' deaths and quest for vengeance on everything crime-related that he has ceased to be anything but the Batman. When he's Bruce Wayne, he's Batman, pretending to be a playboy billionaire, and when he's Batman, he's the hand of justice itself; hellbent on punishing evil. Christian Bale did a great job of being incredibly true to that. The scenes where Alfred desperately tried talking sense into "master Wayne" shows that there's no more Bruce Wayne left. Only the manipulative and calculating Batman who positions people around him so they help his cause, and don't get hurt.
Basically, I don't believe Ben Affleck can produce this kind of depth of character, and especially not within the time it takes for a movie to establish a character before the plot starts. I wish they could have kept Bale as Batman because we already know him, and therefore don't need to start the movie with a bunch of exposition, and because the Batman that Bale captured was the closest to a "true" Batman I think we'll ever have.

I realize that Bruce Wayne found love/distraction at the end of DKR, but a lot of time could have passed between the two movies. Time in which Bruce's demons could have resurfaced and forced him to go back to Gotham to find his protegé hard at work filling the gap he left behind. Team-up time and so on!

I'd watch that movie. Not sure about one with a new Batman, played by picklefucker (Clerks 2 ref).

I think he can play Bruce Wayne just fine. Millionaire playboy is right up his alley. As for Batman? Can't be any worse than Christian Bale (I loathe his Batman growly voice)

From what I have seen of DC live action movies, I don't think a JLA is gonna work anyway.

Most of the DC films are fine, but I just don't know how well they can mesh the characters together...but then again, the animated movies coming out of DC are pretty good, so here's hoping!

*thinks about it* Yeah, Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be a better Batman. Although I'm willing to give Affleck a chance as Batman. Much like Berry's Catwoman the fault was in the writing and directing more so than in the acting. But I hold out little hope, because I find Affleck's acting a little .... wooden. The most believable scene I've ever seen from him involved being chased around an oil rig by a shotgun wielding Bruce Willis.

To be fair, at least appearance wise, clooney was the perfect Bruce Wayne.

And cmon if Keaton can be Batman, anyone can be Batman.

The key difference here: Keaton can act. His performances don't come off as wooden.

He didn't do a very good job as Batman. Sad to say but clooney and kilmer made the best batmen, even if they were in the worst films. Bale and Keaton were terrible at it, its the bad guys who carried those films.

Affleck did good as daredevil, and that's just Batman in red.without gadgets. Sides, even if affleck did give a wooden performance, so does Batman, so it works lol.

I must be the only one who wasn't impressed with Christian Bale as Batman, but to be honest I don't think Batman is an interesting superhero either. I think it is very possible for Affleck to pull it off though, there were a lot of people displeased with Heath Ledger being cast as Joker and he pulled off an excellent performance.

I dunno, I think he can pull it off. As Total Film put it: "...and it's hard to argue that he hasn't since gained the maturity and world-weary experience to take on a role that looks to be positioning itself as the mirror image to Superman's younger energy." www.totalfilm.com/features/opi…
I'm with Total Film on this. Affleck is a more than capable actor who's made some rather poor choices.

It's easy to doubt Affleck, I'll give you that. But I'm gonna try a different tack, and hope that they're drawing from the same well of "what the fuck are they thinking" casting talent that had people calling for doom because some blond, musclebound prettyboy was slated to play the Joker those scant few years ago.

Yeah, I honestly thought it was a joke when it was announced. To me, Affleck is always that jock looking guy trying to be funny in Kevin Smith movies. If he were a spoof Batman it could work but he is not Batman. Plus, his personality, such as it is, is bigger than the Batsuit, if you know what I mean. He couldn't play Batman. He'll just be Ben Affleck as Batman

I was shaking my head at Batfleck as well. I think they are not really seeing the type of person batman has to be. especially if hes supposed to be older. This has to be someone who has sacrificed everything that is bruce to be the best at batman. They need to cast based on what batman is at that point more than what would be a good bruce. that was a part of why clooney is the worst ever for batman. He could do bruce just fine. I was actually a big fan of Val as batman myself. Again script sort bombed that one as well.

Two things, first I appreciate the fact that you're not coming out and saying he's wrong for the role, just miscast.  And while I'll agree with Affleck not being my first choice, I've been hearing good things about his last few roles.  So with a decent script, maybe this could work.

And where does Val Kilmer fit into the Keaton-Clooney scale?  Because it sounds like you thought the Clooney film was the worst.  I'm inclined to suggest re-watching the Kilmer Batman and rethink your scale.

I agree and disagree, Mr. Ben-a-fleck is talented but I don't think he's been miscast so-to-speak.

I disagree because Affleck is very talented, and i think he could pull off a good if not decent Bruce Wayne. Though I am curious as to what his Batman will be like.

If you remember a couple years ago when it was announced that Heath Ledger was going to be Joker a lot of people freaked out in a very similar fashion and look how that turned out.

I won't count him out just yet. and I'll wait for the movie.

I agree in the since that I think He would make a better Flash.

so agree and disagree ^^;

Honestly, I just think they couldn't get a hold of Matt Damon so they thought to themselves "Hey, who was that other guy he tends to be around?!", and after much beard-stroking and arse-picking, they finally said screw it grab the Aflac guy. Not understanding they meant Gilbert Gottfried, they grabbed Ben Affleck.

And hell, just wait til they introduce the NEW Lobo in the JLA film. I mean god, when the rude, lewd, man with attitude turns into what appears to be a reject straight out of a fan-art for Final Fantasy... it's almost painful...
www.themarysue.com/dc-new-lobo…

And they have the nerve to say the current Lobo is and always has been an imposter!
