The paranoia that our governments are spying on us has resurfaced again in this past week, with the NSA's "Prism" program being the latest issue for conspiracy theorists to wet themselves over.
Its connection to Britain's GCHQ activities means we have politicians on the air day and night saying that the public have nothing to fear.
And we don't.
All they care about is that we pay our taxes. Beyond that, they're not watching us. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't. They don't have the manpower of funds! There are roughly 2 million CCTV cameras in the United Kingdom, meaning there is 48 million hours of footage produced per day. All that can logically be used for is to track and capture people who break the law. The same goes for any internet monitoring that might be conducted by the security services. Unless, of course, the conspiracy theorists are also suggesting that over half the population of the country are working for secret intelligence?

It wouldn't surprise me if they did make that claim, of course. Paranoids aren't the most rational people: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22832994
