Evil Dead Remake

If an original film has a splendid core concept, but a budget too low or a director too inept to do it justice, I don't mind a remake. I'll applaud it.

The most toxic remake thus far has been "Total Recall", which was terrible simply because it used the original as a crutch at more than a few points and, despite having a massive budget and 20 years of technological advancement on the original: felt less exciting and epic.
Closer to the book, sure, but just not as much fun.

And now they've turned their gaze upon "Evil Dead".

Now, I'm not going to try and defend the original Evil Dead, because it's not actually that great a film. This is proven with "Evil Dead 2", in which the entirety of the preceding movie's plot and purpose is successfully reduced to an opening act. Something that wouldn't have been possible were the movie, y'know; good.
"Evil Dead 2" is awesome. It's called a "cult classic" for a reason, and, in my eyes, should have rendered the whole franchise "sacred", meaning you don't touch the damn thing. Sure, make an "Evil Dead 4", something set in the same universe with different characters, but don't do a remake! It'd be like doing a remake of "Ghostbusters"; you'd only succeed in tainting the franchise with something devoid of the magic that made the original so great.
And the teaser for the new "Evil Dead" film suggests it's had that magic cut out of it. And not even with a chainsaw…..

They've made the iconic cabin/book/chainsaw combo look like every other gore-fest out there.
Bloody, but bland.
