Wow. This I didn't see coming:

Billion? (£2.5 Billion, in real money)
Not as much as Pixar.....but then, if Lucasfilm were a house, JarJar would be the devaluing, sh*t-stained carpet a new owner would have to deal with.
And, no, I'm not going to denounce it. Disney buying Lucasfilm? That has potential, and I'm not talking Star Wars, here.
If I've read the press release on the Disney corporate website correctly, they now own EVERYTHING – including Lucasarts, which is a division of Lucasfilm.
Monkey Island/Day of the Tentacle/Sam & Max + Disney? That could be amazing!
As for the (inevitable) Star Wars 7, I'm really hoping they use the Thrawn Trilogy. In fact, I'm betting they do. Let's face it; Disney haven't ever had an original idea, that's why they keep buying up other people's work, and if they're hoping to have something released by 2015 they'll have no choice but to dive into existing material.
Of course, if they produce a Saturday morning cartoon that follows the jolly adventures of a bunch of Younglings at Jedi School, I will burn the Magic F**king Kingdom to the ground.
Not sure about Sam & Max as it's Steve Purcell's baby and he fully owns it, i dont know for how long Telltale games has the license for them though, but I totally agree with the rest, i really hope they bring those franchises to life again.
I also read somewhere the Lucas deal also included ILM.
All this whiny, "ruined FOREVER!" bullshit is exactly the same as when they bought Marvel.
But guess what, guys? If it weren't for Disney buying Marvel, they likely wouldn't have had the finances to make the Avengers (or Avengers Assemble for us Brits) as big as it was.
And you forget about Pixar. Bought by Disney, still making the best mainstream animated films you're likely to see every couple of years.
The suits at Disney aren't idiots. They know that if they cast Miley Cyrus or whatever teen poplet they're trying to sell as the daughter of Luke Skywalker in the next movie that they're going to deal with more shit than they can possibly imagine.
One bad thing I can see coming out of this is that with Disney being as protective of their property as they are, you can pretty much kiss the Expanded Universe goodbye. I don't find it incredibly likely that they'll be taking it into account when making this next film.
By the way, I'm not actually a big Star Wars fan. I AM a Marvel fan, however.
Take it as horror. Lone youngling finds out there are others questioning the illusion but only knows them long enough truly to be able to recognize the tattered remnants of their horrible death, devoured by Outside the illusion. Star Wars meets Tron meets Lovecraft. i'd hit it.
