Just a week to go until we embarrass ourselves in front of the world.
Millions (Billions?) of Pounds and what do we get? A stadium with (inexplicably) a strange vision of the English countryside in it (www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/…), and a mutant pylon (www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olym…) which is not and never will be a monument "as iconic as the Eiffel Tower".

Commedian Marcus Brigstocke described the British attitude toward the Olympics quite well a few years ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJEH9P…

Truth be told: I've never been that fussed when it comes to the Olympics, regardless of where in the world it's held. It's just this time I'll be thinking "NO! Who greenlit that? They did WHAT during the opening ceremony? Where's that Boyle bastard? I'm gonna kill him".

...........AND WHAT'S ALL THIS ABOUT THE VOLLYBALL PLAYERS BEING FORCED TO WEAR SHORTS???!!!

I actually had low expectations when I watched the opening ceremony; and if anything I was ready to outright mock/moan about it.

But in all honesty; I actually bloody enjoyed it. Yeah there were a few things that I feel weren't portrayed well enough or a few things that they should have added in; but all in all I was pleasantly surprised. I'd rather not think about the budget or anything like that; because we were trying to figure out why the hell they'd need so much money when there were so many volunteer's involved ¬_¬
