Yeah, this'll end well.....Let me try to wrap my head around this: certain parties in the U.S government don't like the idea of assisting the poor, of the county they serve, with health care expense, because of the cost.Their "solution" to this is to shut down the government (something which isn't possible in any other nation on the planet), which will cost more, decrease public spending, lower the demand for imports, damage global economy and generally tarnish the U.S's international reputation even further? The rich making others suffer in an effort to get their own way.I believe that's called "tyranny".
Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'As a kid, I always idolised those crazy characters in movies that worked in a chaotic environment, filled with papers and books. You know the ones? They were always looking for a specific item amid their hoard of stuff, and they'd tear the place apart in search of it.I just realised: I've become one of those characters.....and that sh*t's not nearly as much fun as it looked on screen when I was 8.WHERE THE F**K DID I PUT THAT FILE??!!
Someone's trying to get into my DA account.Just got a password reset notification email. Can't really understand the mentality of people that set out to cause digital vandalism.Angsty, pathetic little minds, so stunted on the creativity front that the only way they can feel any sense of accomplishment is by undoing someone else’s efforts?I just can't think that....small.You can do any number of things with your time, any number of wonderful things to make your mark on the world. If all you can come up with is doing something to make another person’s life more difficult: you’re a bit of a prick.
F**k-ugly watermarks.I follow a lot of insanely talented artists here on DA, people whose work I look at in sheer awe and whose skill I can only dream of one day matching.Unsurprisingly, that high quality of work leads to them either having their work ripped off or operating in fear of that happening. They, quite rightly, want to protect their art with a watermark, something which I'm not against at all. What I am against, what I hate, is people using that god-awful DA watermark. If you are a good artist: don't be a lazy git. Make your own watermark, use your own logo. You'll protect your work without doing it the disservice of having some automatically-generated arse-smear ruining it.
Legend of Korra - Book 2Sweeeeeeeeeeet.How is Avatar the only cartoon like this?! The original series came out years ago and was a huge success: a family friendly, mature narrative, like any number of live action, fantasy dramas, only animated. Why has no one copied the formula?! We should be swamped by this kind of goodness!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ftLm52V1y0As much as I like the visuals of Anime, the narrative usually lost in translation....... or was just crap to begin with.Western writing combined with Eastern animation techniques (or should that read "slave labour"?) is just brilliant!
Robocop 2.0The Robocop reboot was one of the few acts of lazy plagiarism that I wasn’t really bothered by, and was in fact looking forward to.“WHAAAT?!” I hear some cry. “You can’t mess with a classic!”To them I ask: Have you watched the original recently?Unlike, say, Ghostbusters (1984), the original Robocop has not aged well, mostly because it was a satire and satirical comedy/comedy based on popular culture tends to date very quickly. Also, because of the limitations of special effects at the time: Peter Weller now looks decidedly goofy clomping around “future” Detroit in that clunky costume. I’ve no idea how restrictive it was, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion that he took the Anthony Daniels approach to playing a robot and made a point of moving like the Tin Man in a monsoon. The reboot has ditched the satirical slant of the original and become a character-based drama. Those hoping for a repeat of the ‘87
Playing around with RPG Maker.During Steam’s summer “if these prices don’t tempt you into giving us your money, nothing will” sale, I picked up RPG Maker VX Ace dirt cheap.I’d played around with the demo a little while back, but didn’t think it worth the price they were asking as it simply wasn’t as versatile as the Clickteam software I’ve been using, in one form or another, since 1993.However, at 75% off, I thought “what the hell”.Now, I’ve only been messing around with the system for a few hours, but I can see how it’d be easier for me to make the “great big f**k-off” RPG I’ve always wanted to put together using RPG Maker rather than MultiMedia Fusion. With the latter, I’d have to put together all the internal workings myself. With the former, that’s already in place. All I have to do is focus on the story and pretty graphics, which is useful as I have zero programming know-how. That’s why
Wimpiest 'storm' ever.Let's assess the damage England sustained from the dreaded "storm" that hit last night: the rail network has been disrupted (which doesn't take a storm to do. Leaves on the line is usually enough) and a tree fell over. However will we cope?I think the British media look at genuinely dangerous parts of the world with envy. It must be boring for them working in the UK. We have no dangerous animals (the newspapers have been trying to cause panic over the False Widow. The least scary spider in the world), you're never more than a few miles from a road, so there is no wilderness to get lost in (you have to be dumb enough to climb a Scottish mountain in mid-winter in order to die in the "wild"), there are no active fault lines to cause major earthquakes or tsunami, you can drink the tap water without worry and our weather doesn't require special preparations to deal with, only causing trouble for people devoid of common sense. The only thing "dangerous" here are the people.
I seem to have lost a day.I spent the last 24 hours thinking it was Wednesday, when it is, in fact, Thursday.That's....kinda scary.Thinking back, I seem to have misplaced Tuesday. I have no clear memory of what I was doing. I'm guessing: work of some nature.Must have got a little too caught up in my day-to-day routine and just flown on auto-pilot for a while. That may be a bad thing......
