Like everyone (don't deny it, you lying bastards), I google my own name from time to time. Usually when I'm on the crapper after eating that cheapo garlic and herb dip Dominos give out free with their pizzas. I can be there for hours.............uh..........anyway........
A few years back, I spotted that someone had set up a page on Wikipedia about my webcomic, Sequential Art.
No; it wasn't my doing. If it was, the character names would have been spelt correctly.
I'd drop in from time to time to check out what people had added to this little article. It always gave me a giggle to read other people's take on my comic, and stoked the ego to think that someone actually gave enough of a damn about it to make the effort at all!
Alas; I've just discovered that the article has gone. Deleted by the Wikans (ooh. I like that) due to outdated links and leaving me with nothing to do while taking a dump but wind-up haters on /co/.
*sigh*
Guess I'd better get some new reading material in here.
Where'd I put those old copies of Amiga Format?
  • Listening to: Booming Orchestral Scores
  • Reading: Assorted comics
  • Watching: Stargate Universe
  • Playing: Lollypop Chainsaw (I PAID for this??!)
  • Eating: Junkfood
  • Drinking: Water.

That's why I stick with the garlic dip from Papa John's Pizza. Sorry to hear about your little ego boost being gone. Maybe you can start your own Wiki about your own stuff, and tell giant whoppers about your work or yourself.

I like the talk for the deletion pages. It was apparently marked twice for deletion. The first time, the addition of external sources and references shifted the vote. [link] The second time, Nobody defended it. [link] In both cases, it failed the guidelines for normal articles. [link]

Personally, I see the reasoning behind the article's deletion. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and lives and breathes off being able to lead people to third party sources of information. That being said I find it annoying that nobody stepped up to try and do something. While most web comics don't receive much respect, there's certainly a use for those articles. That and the Wikipedia rule lawyers act and sound like emotionless robots.

Better than when I googled my own name and discovered that somebody else with my exact name made a bomb threat to their school as a practical joke and the only thing differentiating them from me is about a decade of age. Le sigh.

There has been a general rejection of Wikipedia articles about webcomics unless they accomplish something other than appearing on the web -- no matter how much they're referenced by other sources (a lack of which is often cited as a reason for dumping articles). Welcome to the ranks of the recognized.

There is danger to be had reading, or listening to, something while on the toilet.

If all does not go well bowel wise, the one thing you just read or heard will be forever what you associate with this horrible, devestating, occurance. I ruined the Stone Roses that Way.

I like that word, "The Wikians". Makes me think of some kind of powerful alien race, the kind with big heads and floaty robed bodies. I'm picturing something like a cross between the Auditors from Discoworld and Master Jiggywiggy from Banjo-Tooie.

Papa Johns dip isn't much better, sadly, not that it stops me from eating it. I love garlic, oh well. Wikipedia does try to keep their links up to date, and any article that doesn't conform to at least minimal standards of accuracy gets removed (eventually). Still, you figure they'd at least try and spell names correctly, eh?

Well, that's what you get for the horrible update schedule.

/tease.

You could have stepped in to maintain the links, at least, that might have helped. There used to be an article about the 'zine I used to publish. I haven't checked on it in a while. Hmmm, looks like it was deleted in April by a user named "Explicit" for not being noteworthy. But it is still listed in the page about APAs. I could have saved it if I've checked in while it had the deletion proposal on it.

Amiga Format? Amiga FORMAT? God in Heaven.

If you're going to read an ancient publication concerned with that poor dead old computer, you'd have to be crazy-mad bonkers in the nut to make it anything other than Amiga Power, which was (and indeed remains) the greatest computer-related magazine ever conceived by human beings. It was unquestionably the best Amiga mag ever published; AF was, at best, insufferably tedious, although in fairness it never plumbed the depths of dismaltry to which Amiga (hack, spit) Action sank every month, rot its bones forever.

Here, wrap your peepers round this: [link] It's a whopping great archive of stuff from every issue of AP ever, and it's ace. And, y'know, you can find links to AF issues on the same site. If you *really* must read that sort of scruffy gubbins. And get your hair cut.

I never owned an Amiga. I inherited those mags and hung onto them to remind me that games once had actual CHARM.

I can relate to that. The computer itself may have been relentlessly beige, but there were a great many games available for it that were delightful in their look, wonderfully imaginative in their design and heaps of fun to play. (Some of my all-time favourite games exist only on the Amiga to this day, in fact.) And funnily enough, during the machine's early 90s heyday, I somehow acquired several issues of Super Play magazine despite never having owned a SNES. I've still got 'em, and they too are a pleasing reminder of a gaming era characterised by colour and infectious joy.

Amiga Power, on the other hand, I read to remind myself of just how good video games magazines were capable of being, before Future Publishing realised they could shift more copies by slapping "OFFICIAL!" on the front and telling the readers that everything was brilliant.
