Skyrim - First ImpressionsPicked up a cheapo copy of Skyrim today. First impressions: this game is so inside the box, it's inside a smaller box.
Tolkien was, undeniably, a genius, but, for the love of creativity and dynamism; read another f**king book, people.
There's a world of culture, history and myth out there to seek inspiration from! Fantasy should be an exciting, twisted reflection of the world around us, not an endless stream of pirated Lord of the Rings DVDs.

"Lynx" is known as "Axe" in some regions. Not quite sure why.
Say the word "Lynx" and it conjures imagery of lithe, feline predators.
What springs to mind when you say "Axe"?

The Word of KurtzI was checking the "links" section of my website, just to make sure everything was still working as I hadn't actually clicked on anything there for a while, and I found myself on the PVP website.
"A while" was obviously "a few years". I barely recognised the strip!

"Everyone is kind of freaking out right now because of the Gary Friedrich case. Long story short, the guy who created Ghost Rider in 1972 sued Marvel, claiming that they never filed a copyright for his work and therefore he still owns Ghost Rider. Courts said "sit down before you fall down" and in addition slapped the guy with a $17,000 fine for selling tee shirts and posters featuring Mike Ploog Ghost Rider art at conventions.
People are considering this a warning salvo at artists who do sketches of Marvel and DC owned characters at

Paramount has shut down pre-production on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot over "script problems".
Translation; Paramount realised that if they continued down the path Bay was going, fans would probably burn their studios to the ground.
With luck (and a dollop of common sense) the project will be shelved altogether and the IP left fallow until competent directors/producers are brought on board.

As the Mayan Calendar doesn't take leap years into account; 2012 has been and gone.

I think we've been trained by boring autistic-type art people who work in children's animation and mainstream comics and BORING FANTASY ART, and HEY MAN IM A STEAMPUNK/SPACE ARTIST, and ANIME and ARGH!!!... to have expectations that our art should be this eternal monolith of consistency, and branding ourselves means specializing to a fault and never ever escaping from that specialty.
Also, we tend to tie our pride and workmanship to our art. So giving up something people recognize, probably seems counter-intuitive.
But like, if attempt to draw in a new way, the new approach will always give you perspective on your old approach. Once you've exhausted every possible approach on a style or mode of thought, finding something new and exciting in that world you've mastered becomes like a test of faith. You're essentially waiting for a bolt of inspiration from another plane

A couple years back, our publisher's CEO made a splash in the video gaming blogs and news sites by saying that we upheld our jobs with dignified sincerity, and that we knew the process of making fun and games was anything but fun and games. Of course, considering the hilarious level of integrity professional video gaming blogs adhere to (hilarious!), you could imagine those words were twisted around to single out one phrase. Take out all the previous context, and what's left? "We take the fun out of making video games."

August, 2010, the last weekend before overtime started on our major AAA project.  I was transferred from the previous rhythm/music video game onto the major blockbuster shooter just a month prior to their major crunch period.  We were literally jumping from our last crunch into a new one with hardly any break.  Though the timing made things a bit hectic, I soon learned it certainly was convenient.

Skyrim? Been there. Bought the T-Shirt.Bethesda (when they're not acting like prats about someone daring to use the word "Scrolls" in a title) produced one of my all time favourite games: Fallout 3.
It sits atop my list of Desert Island Discs because the Capital Wasteland is simply one of the most engaging virtual environments thus far created, and within which; exploration is rewarded. Very few games actually let you do what you want. They claim to, but in actual fact; just lead you 'round by the nose or provide you "hints" that both insult your intelligence and ruin the atmosphere.
Fallout 3 leaves you alone to enjoy its irradiated wonderland at your leisure. Uncovering the mythology for yourself by sifting through the remains of the obliterated DC area.
You'd think then, with my obvious love of such games, that I would have picked up a copy of Skyrim. Maybe even two. One to play and one to caress gently during the loading screens.

Traditional art.Someone has asked me: 'what do you prefer? Why don't you try a digital art?'
Well ... I will not! Why? I just love traditional art. Touching the pen / brush, etc., many errors, of which only some can be clean by eraser. Magic!
Be honest - I have nothing against the artists or works made in a digital way. They are very impressive, colorful - almost perfect! I admire them for it!
My drawing teacher said: 'Maybe just a little while and the people who use a pencil / brush - will be no exist - you will only count them on one hand. Do not go away from the traditional art because it all begins from traditional...' . There's a lot of truth.
No matter what you do - do what you like the most!
And most important: be good at it!
